Tomsk Polytechnic University and Shenyang Ligong University (SYLU) will create the Russia-China Joint Institute of Learning for students to complete bachelor’s degrees.

“Our universities have long and fruitful history of cooperation. Since 2007, TPU and SYLU have been implementing a 2+2 joint educational program. This mode of learning implies that the first two years students of SYLU study in China and then come to Tomsk to study here another two years. Graduates also obtain Russian and Chinese diplomas.

This experience proved to be quite successful. Jointly with SYLU, we have trained over 400 bachelors, 76 masters and 5 candidates of sciences. In 2020, our partners from China proposed that we extend cooperation in creation the Russia-China Joint Institute of Learning.

Together with our partners, we completed huge joint groundwork, the result of which became the Joint Institute of Learning. Some days ago, the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China approved our project,” says Mikhail Solovyov, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs of TPU.

The creation of the Joint Institute of Learning aims at strengthening relations in higher education between Russia and China, as well as promoting exchanges in educational, cultural and research spheres. It is intended that within the project, there will be created a joint structure for implementation of educational programs in mechanical engineering, tool engineering, computer science and information technology, and materials science with the use of educational resources of the School of Advanced Manufacturing Technologies, the School of Computer Science and Robotics, and the School of Non-Destructive Testing of TPU.

“It is planned that students will complete bachelor’s degrees. Moreover, the designed joint educational programs, curriculum and academic staff will meet strict requirements of the national educational standards of TPU and SYLU. We expect that the amount of students studying one major will be not less than 100 people a year,” the TPU Vice-Rector notes.
